Melissa Young is a writer who loves to play with language. Her experience in erotica, health-science writing and corporate communication makes for a colorful combination of skill.

She currently works in healthcare communication and is finalizing a memoir, “Readers Called Me Velvet.”

You may call me Melissa or Velvet.

If you ask me what kind of writer I am, you’ll have to be a bit more specific - both in topic and title. If you’ve worked with me professionally, you know me as Melissa, a partner in creative thinking, strategic communication, brand voice and Agile ways of working. If you’ve read or heard any of my more public works, you know me as Velvet Moore, an author of short fiction that’s not safe for work.

Good writing is clear thinking made visible.

I tend to agree with Ambrose Bierce’s centuries-old opinion that “good writing is clear thinking made visible.” And oh, how I love to think. If you get my curious mind interested in a topic, I’ll itch to explain it to anyone who will listen. In case no one listens, I may commit my thoughts to writing, information flowing from fingertips to keys, telling stories of sex and love, science and health, tales of navigating life as a parent, wife and woman or whatever topic needs explaining.
