Feature stories are human stories
I love to both read and write feature stories. They provide a chance to dive deep into a topic to learn something new, with the compelling storytelling style of narrative. I was fortunate to do a lot of this type of writing as the editor and sole-author of a pediatric research magazine, for a past employer.
Making medical coding a little more fun
Medical professionals rely on a coding system to ensure they’re documenting your injury or ailment appropriately, an important factor if you want your insurance company to cover your care. When the government decided to update the decades-old coding system with new codes and a new name (from ICD-9 to ICD-10), we had to try something new to capture the attention of thousands of busy clinicans. A campaign I developed called “There’s a Code for That” had a little fun with the many unique medical codes, and drew attention to the upcoming change.
